Lincoln Park Fire Fitness
Mission Statement
The Mission of the Lincoln Park Fire Fitness Committee is to provide a physical fitness training program of the highest level to the firefighters of Lincoln Park as well as promoting fitness and health oriented activities throughout the community.
Jayson Milley - Chairman
Mike Prinz - Co-Chairman
The Lincoln Park Fire Fitness Committee was established in 1992 for the purpose of purchasing workout equipment for the firefighters to use around the fire station. The Lincoln Park Firefighters “Summer Bash “was started the same year as a fundraiser to purchase the equipment. The party was held at the Knights of Columbus in Lincoln Park. Approximately 100 people, (friends and family of Lincoln Park Firefighters) attended. Since 1992 the Summer Bash has evolved tremendously. The money raised from the fundraiser has also branched out to the community. The party raises approximately $8,000 per year which has been used in various ways to benefit the firefighters and citizens of Lincoln Park.
In the past the committee has sponsored troubled youths in a karate class to learn discipline. Another accomplishment we are very proud of is the fact that the members volunteered their time to help install 6 playscapes in city parks at a substantial savings to the city. We have also adopted one of those parks. Some of the other teams and events we have sponsored are Little league baseball, Bowl for burns, Senior softball, LPHS hockey, as well as Misc. golf outings and other fundraisers and events. We award a $1000 scholarship every year to a Lincoln Park High school student who pursues a fitness or health related degree. We sponsor kids who have been burned to attend a Kids Burn Camp that is put on by the U of M burn center every summer in the Grand Rapids area. We Also have a member who has attended the camp as a counselor for the past 4 years. If anyone is interested in learning more about Kids Burn Camp you can contact Brian Keene. We are pleased to say that we donate $1000 to the kids burn camp every year. That covers the cost of sending 2 kids for the week.
I am especially proud to announce that we have just donated $7,000 to the Lincoln Park Jr. Rails football program so they can purchase new helmets for the kids.(May 2007) Some of their helmets are over 20 years old and have been deemed unsafe to use. The money will be used to purchase all of the helmets they need to replace. If you have any questions or would like to make a donation feel free to contact Jayson Milley @ (313) 381-1975 between 8am and 9pm.
